Application
I will prepare your nail prior to application, filing down the existing nail plate and applying a primer. The gel will then be applied, shaped and cured for 60 seconds under an LED light. The result is a matte finish. If a shiny finish is required a top coat will be added and cured for a further 60 seconds under the LED light.
Removal
A 6-8 weeks’ review is recommended to ensure the nail bed is in good health and improving. It also allows the opportunity for a re-application if required. If the nail plate is in good health and approximately 75% improvement is noticed, the Toeflex can be left to grow out, or removed professionally with a ceramic burr.

How long does a reconstruction take?
It usually only takes about 10 minutes for me to reconstruct, for example, a big toenail. The clinic time and price will depend on how many nails need to be treated and the amount of work your nails need. I am able to give you advice during your initial consultation. Nail reconstructions can usually be completed during a routine foot health appointment.
What nail damage can be treated?
A Toeflex Gel Nail Reconstruction can be used on a variety of damaged nail conditions and can also be applied during a treatment for fungal nails. The gel nail itself is not a treatment for fungal nails, it is simply a cosmetic way of disguising the nail while you undergo treatment, if appropriate. Nails that have been damaged by trauma, like running or sport, can be reconstructed very easily. Permanently damaged nails will really benefit from a Toeflex cosmetic makeover.
What are the benefits of a foot clinic over a beauty salon for this treatment?
As a foot healthcare practitioner I will ensure that your toe is suitable for a reconstruction, and I will usually carry out your routine foot care treatment at the same time. I will monitor the nail’s progress and make sure that your nail health is not compromised, ensuring continuity of care.
How often will I need to have my nails reconstructed?
You will need to return to approximately every 8 weeks for maintenance of your Toeflex nail reconstruction. I will remove the application, check the integrity of the natural nail underneath and reapply if necessary. There is always a charge for this, but it is usually done during your routine foot health appointment.
